This past tuesday Gavin and I went downtown and met one of my sweet old friends from college and her little boy Charlie at the zoo. We had so much fun watching the boys run around and play and pet all the animals that were for petting.
When Gavin saw all the animals that were in the petting zoo part he was dying to go in.
This was his first attempt at petting a goat.
His second attempt. For some reason he likes to try and sit on animals or babies or other children in order to pet them or hold them or touch them. He tries to sit on sugar all the time. She of course has quickly learned what it means when that little bottom starts descending on her and jumps up as fast as she can. So he was trying to sit on the goat but this was as close as he got.
Third times a charm! But notice how far away his body is. He only got as close as he had to for his little hand to reach that goat.
This picture is right before Gavin stuck his finger through the rooster cage attached to the petting cage and quickly learned that roosters do not like being petted. Of course it scared him half to death but didn't really hurt him.
Then we went over and saw the giraffes. I have never been that close to a giraffe before. They are absolutely awe-inspiring! The head male was enormous! I thought it was weird though because you know they have a long neck but it really is their legs that are so long! They are just so cool looking.
This picture was taken right before Charlie's mishap for the morning. He was running over to the side and tripped and slammed his forehead into the corner of a post. It hurt really bad but he was a really big boy and only cried for a minute!
Before the day was over we took the boys to the carousel for a ride.
They both loved every minute of it although it wasn't a very long ride for 2.50. Charlie was really brave and held onto the pole the whole time. Gavin liked the ride but he liked it much better if he could wrap one arm around my neck so tight that I thought he might cut off the circulation. Of course I love it when he hugs my neck that tight so I didn't mind one bit!
It was just so fun to walk and talk about anything and everything. However at least with girlfriends, I always feel like that time goes by to quickly. There's always more to talk about but it's time to go home and get on with the normal boring time from day to day.
The boys are getting closer and closer to really being able to play together. They are only 6 months apart but for this first year of Charlie's life that has been world's away. But Charlie is really good at walking now and loving to explore so I know that as we now get to see each other a lot more often that they will really be able to play hard with each other. Which of course really means better and longer naps! YEAH!
